Professional Summary / Introduction
Riyaz Alam is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the School of Management, Prestige University, Indore, and serves as the Area Chair for the Integrated Management Programme (IMP). His research interests focus on environmental and resource economics, particularly the economics of ecotourism, non-market valuation of ecosystem services, human–wildlife conflict, sustainable management of protected forest areas, and energy economics.
Before joining Prestige University, he worked as a Research Associate in an ICSSR-sponsored project on “Clean Cooking Fuel” at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, where he also completed his Ph.D. in Economics (2023). He holds a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Aligarh Muslim University.
His research has been published in several reputed international journals, including Tourism Planning & Development, Human Dimensions of Wildlife, and OPEC Energy Review (Scopus Q1). Riyaz is currently leading an ICSSR-funded research project that examines the role of ecotourism in livelihood diversification across tiger reserves in Madhya Pradesh, in collaboration with IIFM Bhopal, IIT Indore, and IIM Indore.
He teaches both undergraduate (IMP) and postgraduate (MBA) courses such as Managerial Economics I & II, Macroeconomic Foundations, Fundamentals of Data Analytics, Exploratory Data Analytics, and Group and Team Work. His academic work bridges theory and practice, integrating sustainability, analytics, and policy insights into applied economics and management education.
